Our First Post Cards!

We recieved our first two post cards! One was from San Francisco, CA and the other was from Ames, Iowa. We had a blast learning about different places and finding them on a map!

Post Card Project

Throughout the school year our Kindergarten class will be working on a post card project. We are hoping to have post cards sent to us from all over the world! I’ve asked each sender to tell us some interesting facts from the post card’s location so we can learn about different places without leaving our classroom. Each time a post card arrives, we will mark where it came from on a United States or World Map. Then, we will place the post card into an album for everyone to enjoy.

Free Centers

Work Centers

We started work centers this week! Each student is a member of a group that will travel between the art, phonics, math, and writing centers (choices of centers will change from week to week). Check out the pictures from today's work center session!

Write The Room

During journal time, the students have been busy "writing the room". Basically, they'll write down any words that they may see around the room in order to practice print concepts and handwriting skills. These came home in the blue folders over the weekend. I hope you had a chance to check them out!

Predictable Charts

Every morning during The Planning Circle, we participate in activities revolving around our Predictable Chart for the week. Last week, our predictable chart format was "My name is ___________" and this week, it's "I like ____________" (color words). Predictable charts are a great way to practice directionality when reading (tracking from left to right and top to bottom) and to practice sight words. At the end of the week, students use their predictable chart sentences to make a page for the class book! They are given the words for their sentence, and they must glue them in order onto their page before illustrating. Check out our class books outside of our classroom (on the cafeteria side) each week!
